Expectations for 2007 (Feb 2007)

I may have to lower my expected number of books to read this year from 12 minimum to 9 or 10.

I'm currently reading The Prince of Nothing trilogy, which includes The Darkness That Comes Before, The Warrior Prophet, and The Thousandfold Thought. These are not short books and they're very, very deep. this is not a bad thing, I've just become a much slower reader since I was a kid.

I'm still going to aim for 12 or more for this year, but I'm not going to be too upset if I end up with only 9 or 10 at the end of the year.

Yech (Dec 2006)

So, this has to be my worst reading year ever. Even when you factor in the 2 or 3 books I didn't post on, I still read less than a book a month.

I don't usually do resolutions, but reading is important, so I'm resolving to read at least 1 book a month for 2007 and beyond.

I think I need a bigger purse so I can be sure to have space to always bring a book with me.

*sighs*

Really, I'm Reading! (Jun 2006)

I'm just not reading as fast. Still trying to get through Wicked, which started out great but hasn't stayed so great.

And I'm trying to write and take care of other things while I still have a summer.

So, silence. Not good, but not bad. Just not here. But working on it.

Reading, Yes (Aug 2005)

Posting? Who has time?

I have 3 books I've read on backlog for reviews, 2 of which are Dresden Files books. My current reads include a book on autism, a book on plotting, and a fiction book I've been trying to finish for ages.

Instead I'm working on lesson plans and teaching.

I'm not even writing or revising right now.

All of which sucks. But I have been reading and I'll try to get something up soon. *sigh*

About (Jan 2003)

I believe that reading is becoming a lost art.

I believe that reading is better for the mind than TV or movies.

I believe that literacy starts at home with a good book and a good example.

I believe the best way for schools to encourage reading is to let students read what they like even if it means skipping the classics.

I believe books that entertain also teach.

I believe that books inspire the imagination.

I believe the more I read, the better I write.

I believe that reading shows we're not alone and gives insight into human nature.

I believe that reading helps us master our language.

I believe that reading is one of the best cures for boredom.

I believe that reading helps keep us healthy.

I believe a good book is meant to be shared.

Sharing is what this log is about.

Inspired by others who have joined a year of reading, I present my book log which chronicles my own journey of reading. Here I share the books I read, a brief synopsis, and my opinions, and invite discussion on the books and on reading.

Unless otherwise noted, all books reviewed have been purchased by me.

I will no longer be linking to Amazon and no longer recommending Amazon as a place to purchase books I review. Amazon has repeatedly used bully tactics to reinforce its policies, even if those tactics cause harm to authors or limit customer choices. Amazon usually apologizes for the events after the fact, but that they continue to use the same methods makes those apologies hollow. I will not purchase from or encourage others to purchase from a business that chooses to take from the pockets of authors (who as a whole earn a lot less than general public realizes) and decide what the public should and should not read.
